Helping your child at home

At Havelock Junior School we believe that homework should support and extend learning in school.  In particular, we recognise the significant impact regular reading at home can have on children’s academic success and our homework policy is built around the idea: make time for reading.

All our children are expected to read five times a week at home.  Children learn to read at school and regular reading at home provides essential practise.  For home reading, the children have access to a hierarchical set of colour banded books which they progress through at a pace that is right for them.

Maths and English homework is set weekly on Thursdays to be returned to school on Tuesdays.

As a school we have subscribed to MyMaths - a great online maths website packed full of activities and games to consolidate the work your children are doing in school and based around the new maths curriculum. In September, children will be given login details, but in the meantime there are plenty of activities on the MyMaths site for anyone to try. So, have a go and let us know what you think!

  • Times Table Games A number of games for children to practise their times tables. Click on 'times tables' in 'Choose a category' for 7-11 years.
